Tax Accounting Internship

As a Tax Accounting Intern you will support tax compliance and client service engagements. You will gain a basic understanding of federal and state tax concepts as well as learn to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. This role is ideal for candidates beginning their public accounting career who are eager to develop technical tax knowledge all while earning hours towards the Technical Reviewed Hours portion of the CPA requirement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare individual, business, and trust tax returns under supervision.
  • Assemble workpapers and supporting documentation for tax filings.
  • Enter and verify client financial data in tax preparation software.
  • Reconcile book-to-tax differences and trial balances.
  • Assist with quarterly estimated tax calculations and extensions.
  • Prepare K-1s and shareholder/member reporting schedules.
  • Request, organize, and manage client tax documents through the client portal.
  • Draft client follow-up questions for missing information.
  • Prepare depreciation schedules and fixed asset rollforwards.
  • Perform basic tax research and summarize findings for review.
  • Follow firm workflow systems and engagement checklists.
  • Maintain organized electronic workpaper files.
  • Track time and billing codes accurately.
  • Participate in firm training and professional development.

We Pay

Our Interns make an average of $30/hour for rising seniors and work approximately 30 – 40 hours per week during the summer break. Actual compensation may range depending upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications and location, and applicable employment laws. For those interns who show an interest, Sprowls & Co may offer fall and spring internships and year round internships with adjustable hourly requirements.


What You Must Have

  • Currently pursuing or have completed a Bachelor's degree in Accounting with a minimum 3.0 overall GPA in accounting coursework.

  • Anticipated graduation date in 2026, 2027 or May 2028.

  • US citizenship. Sprowls & Co does not participate in or sponsor H-1B employment visas.

  • English language competency.
